| Lectures and Speakers |
While academic coursework is the foundation for the development of legal professional skills, Ave Maria law students gain valuable experiences through attendance of school-sponsored lectures, presentations, and conferences. These activities enrich the educational experience and help students begin to apply what they have learned to real-world situations.
Ave Maria Lecture
The Ave Maria Lecture is an address from a nationally recognized public figure on a topic of interest to the Law School community. This event provides students with an opportunity to meet and interact with prominent members of the legal profession.
Distinguished Speaker Series
The Distinguished Speaker Series brings the Law School community together several times each semester to hear presentations by prominent judges, legislators, practicing attorneys, and government officials, often with discussions focusing on issues of interest from a Catholic perspective.
Conferences
Ave Maria continues to lead and direct cultural and legal debate by hosting or sponsoring conferences and symposia.
Linacre Centre for Healthcare Ethics
The Linacre Centre, based in London, England, exists to promote understanding of Catholic teaching on biomedical ethics. Since its founding in 1977, the Centre has established an international reputation for its work on issues such as abortion, stem cell research, assisted suicide, euthanasia, and its distinguished publications. Professor Luke Gormally, the Centre's former Executive Director, holds a Research Professorship at the Law School and delivers an annual lecture to students and faculty. Scholarly collaboration between the Linacre
Centre and Ave Maria exists through Visiting Research Fellowships of senior law faculty, summer
internships for law students, and jointly sponsored international conferences.
