Artificial Intelligence: An IT Perspective

By Monica Rengifo

Thanks to Artificial Intelligence (AI), legal education is evolving faster than ever, opening up new avenues for innovation and efficiency. Thinking about it from an IT perspective, AI is in everything, from how students research cases to how they analyze them and beyond. The Ave Maria Law Library offers students access to tools that speed up research and help find relevant cases with laser precision. Legal research software tools like LexisNexis are using AI to dig through mountains of cases, statutes, and legal texts, delivering more accurate results faster. AI-driven legal document automation software can help students whip up legal documents, contracts, and briefs using templates, saving time and cutting down on mistakes. That being said, AI brings a bundle of benefits, but it also brings some ethical dilemmas to the table. Law schools need to deal with issues such as data privacy, bias in algorithms, and the ethics of relying too much on automated decision-making. But no worries, the Ave Law library is here to help you dive into the world of AI when it comes to the study of law. The online law databases offered by our Law School are packed with AI-powered search tools and analytics. The Library also conducts workshops hosted by the library and academic departments. By making the most of these resources, you’ll stay ahead of the game and get a good handle on how AI is shaking up the legal world. There is no doubt AI is turning legal education on its head, but by embracing AI with caution and thoughtfulness, we can all move along and continue to tackle the twists and turns of the ever-evolving technology in the legal landscape.
