Ave Maria School of Law at the 50th Annual March for Life

Dean John M. Czarnetzky with Teresa Tomeo on EWTN to Discuss the Legal Aspects of Going Forward in a Post-Roe America.

Last Friday was the 50th annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. Ave Maria School of Law has participated in the March every year of our existence—we’re the only law school in the country that can say that.

Dean Czarnetzky, Monsignor McGrath, Professors Scarnecchia and Kolenc, Chief Development Officer Richard Day, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Elizabeth Westhoff, Creative Director Lisa Johnston, and a gaggle (no, not the correct collective noun) of students made their way to D.C. once again to give visible witness to the importance of the inviolability of the right to life.

Dean Czarnetzky was one of the first interviews on EWTN this year. Radio personality, Teresa Tomeo, featured the Dean as an establishing interview to discuss the legal aspects of going forward in a post-Roe America. It was a fantastic opportunity for #AveLaw, and the Dean was spectacular!

#AveLaw alum Royce Hood’s Law of Life Summit was—as always—an excellent opportunity for those attending to learn how to defend the sanctity of human life. Attendees heard from Royce, Dr. Pat Castle, Co-Founder of the summit and founder of LIFE Runners, Jason Jones, producer of the movie Bella and Director of the Vulnerable People Project, David Bereit, Founder of the 40 Days for Life Campaign, and another alum, Lauren Muzyka, Founder, President, and CEO of Sidewalk Advocates for Life.

Florida pilgrims attended the Pilgrim Mass celebrated by His Excellency, Bishop Frank Dewane. Monsignor McGrath was a concelebrant at the Mass. It was the perfect start to the day.

Dean Czarnetzky, Richard Day, Elizabeth Westhoff, and Lisa Johnston had all-access privileges at the rally before the March and were able to be behind the scenes with legislators, including Rep. Chris Smith, co-chair of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus, bishops like Archbishop William Lori of Baltimore, who currently serves on the USCCB’s Committee on Pro-Life Activities, and pro-life advocates like Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It also provided an opportunity to talk to the daughter of St. Gianna Molla, Dr. Gianna Emanuela Molla, who spoke with Dean Czarnetzky at length and who presented Elizabeth Westhoff with prayer cards for our community  And, finally, it put the four #AveLaw representatives shoulder-to-shoulder with The Chosen’s Jesus Christ himself—Jonathan Roumie.

After the March, the Office of Professional Development and Alumni Affairs hosted an alumni event at the Hawk ‘n Dove, where #AveLaw got to partake of a bit of post-March food, drink, and fellowship.

It was, as it always is, more than the remembrance of the anniversary of Roe v. Wade; it was the chance to join #AveLaw voices to thousands of men and women standing up for life and to let the world know why life is worth protecting.
